The New York Times reports that Rex Heuermann has been arrested on suspicion of killing at least three of the women whose remains were located at a body dump site at Gilgo Beach. Heuermann is described as allegedly living a double life — an architect and family man by day; cold-blooded serial killer of prostitutes by night. The accused murderer is 59-years-0ld, meaning he could have a long career of murder behind him, possibly surpassing the timeframe of the women found slain at Gilgo Beach, Long Island.
This post published by The New York Post suggests that Heuermann went on a 10 year break due to “growing too old to murder,” but what about the years prior to the slayings of these women? The average serial killer is active between the ages of 24 and into their middle ages in many cases. There are many years that the Long Island Serial Killer had the potential of having other victims prior to those found at Gilgo Beach.
According to people who know this man personally, he was born and raised in Long Island, and has lived around the town of Massapequa his entire life. But did he and his family ever travel? Did he ever go on so-called business trips out of town or out of state — or even out of the country? Hopefully the FBI and other investigators are working on this case with these questions in mind.
