There are serial killers among us. In fact, the average person can expect to unknowingly come into contact with at least one serial killer in their lifetime — whether it be a friend or acquaintance, or simply a random stranger that passes you in public. When you put that into perspective, the number of unsolved murders in the United States becomes more than a numerical figure. It becomes a frightening possibility. In the state of Louisiana, that possibility is widely acknowledged regarding the deaths of eight women — all concentrated in one parish.

Known as the Jeff Davis 8, these eight women were all killed in the the Jefferson Davis Parish area. Between the years 2005 and 2009, at least one killer remained active in the area, claiming the lives of the following women: Laconia Brown, Loretta Lewis, Ernestine Patterson, Kristen Lopez, Crystal Zeno, Brittney Gary, Necole Guillory and Whitnei Dubois.

On the surface, these eight homicide victims don’t all look like they share any type of preferred features — something that serial killers do when choosing victims. However, they do all share common ties — as well as common lifestyles. All victims in the Jeff Davis 8 were sex workers who abused hard drugs. According to this A&E profile of the case, most of the victims knew one another.

Even though many years have passed, the murders of the Jeff Davis 8 remain unsolved. Nonetheless, numerous people — including some investigators in Jefferson Davis Parish — believe that these deaths are the work of at least one serial killer.
