A Florida man convicted of killing his bride-to-be in 2020 is getting media attention again due to the bizarre motive behind the murder. Sixty-four-year-old Jerry Odum committed the crime nearly four years ago, but video footage of his interrogation has finally been released, during which he reveals his reason for killing the woman he supposedly loved.
Crime Online reports that the Florida man can be seen in the disturbing footage describing the killing of his then-fiancée, and why he chose to do it, all while remaining calm and cool-headed. According to the man who is now a convicted killer, he became desperate after misleading the woman about his finances and his ability to pay for the wedding she wanted.
Odum met 59-year-old Vickie Edge on a dating app in 2020, and the two quickly fell in love. After briefly dating a mere three months, the two became engaged to be married — which ultimately lead to the Florida woman’s demise. During their short engagement, the Florida man reportedly led his future wife to belief he was financially well-off, and could afford to give her the wedding of her dreams. He had promised to buy her a new home, and provide her with everything she could ever want — including her own boat. As the time drew near for the two to wed, Jerry Odum reportedly wrote a check in the amount of $15,000 to his bride-to-be, in order for her to plan their upcoming nuptials. Unknown to Vickie Edge, however, Odum did not actually have the money to cover the check.
Odum knew that the check would bounce, and he found himself in over his head with his own lies. According to the interrogation video, the Florida man became desperate for a way out of the situation after he write the check to his future wife.
“I didn’t know how to get out of it,” he said.
Odum decided to purchase a baseball bat, which he used to brutally beat the woman he had promised to marry. When beating the woman with the bat wouldn’t suffice, he resorted to choking her to death. Vickie’s body was found in Odum’s home at least two days after she died, and he was quickly arrested, charged and convicted.
