An Alabama boy is lucky to be alive after his mother tried to murder him — all because he wanted to go live with his father. Arrest documents reveal a slew of information, and although the child victim hasn’t been identified, his mother is being openly named-and-shamed, with good reason. Thirty-four-year-old Ashley Elizabeth Jones is accused of abusing her son over a course of over a week, ending in the attempted murder of the 10-year-old lad.

People reports that the Alabama woman was arrested earlier this month after the boy’s father rescued him from her residence. According to arrest documents, the child had told his mother that he wanted to live with his father earlier this month. The Alabama boy claims that his mother reacted violently to this request, and began hitting and biting him. Ashley Elizabeth Jones is also accused of pouring bleach all over her 10-year-old son, who then fled from her to a bathroom in the home, where he attempted to wash the bleach off of him. Police say that this is when the boy’s mother tried to kill him.

Ashley Elizabeth Jones allegedly followed her son into the bathroom and jumped on top of him in the bathtub. The child claims that his mother held his head under water for at least 45 seconds before he “played dead” and allowed himself to go limp and lifeless. The child says that his mother then removed him from the tub and then put him in a closet in the home. The child stayed in the closet for around three hours before he mustered the courage to sneak a phone call to his father, begging him to come pick him up from his mother’s home.

The father of the Alabama child says that when he arrived at the residence of his ex, his 10-year-old son fled from the home with nothing but a game console and some clothing. The boy begged his father to leave without talking to his mom, and then told him about the week of abuse and the drowning attempt that he survived. This prompted the Alabama man to call 911, which led to the arrest of the child’s mom.

Ashley Elizabeth Jones has been released on bond sine her arrest earlier this month. She is charged with aggravated child abuse. She is expected to appear in court at the end of May. Meanwhile, it is unknown if the custody arrangement of the unnamed child victim in this case has changed.
