A woman who accused Marilyn Manson of sexual assault and domestic abuse now says that she lied about the entire thing, and now former fans of the controversial singer don’t know what to think. These allegations were part of a lawsuit that was filed in 2021 in addition to claims made by Evan Rachel Wood, which ended in Manson being “canceled.” Could his public image recover after all of this, or does it even matter?
Earlier this year, the lawsuit initiated by Ashley Morgan Smithline was dismissed, and now it looks like we know why. Smithline has admitted that she fabricated the claims against Marilyn Manson that went viral in 2021. The woman claims that actress Evan Rachel Wood recruited her and coerced her into lying about Manson, whom both of the women had dated at separate times. The Daily Mail reports that Smithline even lied about claims that Manson cut her with a knife that had a swastika on it. All of the claims, she says, are the result of manipulation and coercion by Wood.
It should be noted that even though this woman says that she lied about Manson sexually assaulting and abusing her, there are still several women who have made similar claims. Evan Rachel Wood, of course, is one of those women. Manson denies all of the accusations against him, but there are so many that they’re incredibly hard to ignore. Nonetheless, if Evan Rachel Wood is recruiting women to fabricate damaging stories about the controversial rocker, then this entire mess might just become a lot messier. Hopefully that’s not what’s going on.
