Who was Nicole Alston, and how did she end up dismembered and set ablaze in body bags along a Georgia intersection? Alston was recently confirmed as the identity of murdered remains that had been discovered more than a decade ago, but now numerous questions remain in the case of this slain woman. Will another 16 years come to pass before those questions are answered?

During the early morning hours of December 6, 2007, police were called on reports of a burning black bag along the road near LaGrange, Georgia. When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered that the suspicious burning black bag was in fact a body bag. They located the dismembered remains of a woman inside the burning bag, but the remains were missing her head, hands and feet. They had a Jane Doe on their hands, and it would take several years before she was given an identity.

Atlanta News Now reports that the remains located in 2007 have officially been identified as a woman named Nicole Alston. Alston, who was 24-year-old at the time of her murder, had previously lived in New York before she moved to Georgia, where she’d ultimately met a tragic fate. Very little is known about the once-missing woman. What is known is that Alston had fallen out of contact with her loved ones after leaving New York for Atlanta. This move took place in 2006.

What happened to Nicole Alston between her 2006 move to Georgia and the discovery of her dismembered, burning remains in 2007? Authorities are currently investigating this gruesome crime, but with so much time past, it’s hard to see a positive conclusion in the near future. One thing is certain, however: Whoever killed Nicole Alston went through great lengths to conceal her identity and destroy her dismembered remains. Was this a possible serial killer, or someone known intimately by the victim? Hopefully investigators can get to the bottom of this mystery.
