A two-year-old girl is dead, and her parents are charged in association with her death, after she was reportedly allowed to slowly die while in their care. Police say Washington parents Augustino Maile and Jharmaine Baker are accused of abusing the little girl and then failing to get her medical care, which led to her demise. That’s not the only disturbing detail in this developing case.

Deputies responded to a 911 call over the weekend and found the child unresponsive. The child had reportedly shown signs of being abused, and the father — who provided police with an erroneous name — was breaking a no-contact order stemming from an open abuse case. The parents first told police that the child was clumsy and had fallen, but that was apparently untrue. The investigation also determined that the couple began Googling disturbing questions over the course of time that the child slowly died in their care. The Washington parents allegedly Googled how to wake up an unresponsive child as well as how to identify what some of the child’s developing symptoms were.

Fox News 13 reports that both parents in this disturbing case have been arrested and given separate charges after a brief investigation ruled the child’s death a homicide. The child’s mother, Jharmaine baker, has been charged with 2nd degree murder. The child’s father has been charged with 2nd degree murder and a special charge of “homicide by abuse.”
