A Michigan woman is behind bars after police say she tried to murder her mother during a meth-fueled psychotic episode. The details of this case are absolutely disturbing, but it’s fortunate that the intended victim is alive, and has already been released from the hospital after surviving a potentially-fatal assault.

The Daily Mail reports that 21-year-old Alexis VanDusen was high on meth amphetamines when she violently assaulted her mother. The details surrounding why she assaulted her mother have not been clarified in the news, but authorities have confirmed that the Michigan woman used a pocket knife to stab her mother multiple times before attempting to suffocate her. She is also accused of dowsing her mother with rubbing alcohol while trying to light her on fire. The mother of Alexis VanDusen said that her daughter told her that she wanted her to die.

“I was praying to God to send somebody to help me. I was dying. My energy was gone. I put up a fight. I fought for my life. I had to. I had no choice,” the victim said. “I don’t know how any child could do that, but that wasn’t my daughter.”

Family members of the Michigan woman and her mother say that she had known struggles with crystal meth — and had been acting erratically in recent days. Alexis was reportedly banging on neighbors’ doors and windows in her mother’s neighborhood and acting strangely, causing her loved ones to become concerned for her mental state. Furthermore, her kindhearted mother had just recently let her into her home.

The mother of Alexis VanDusen is currently looking for a way to move out of her home and start a new life — presumably somewhere that Alexis can’t find her in the event that she is released from jail. A GoFundMe page is currently up in hopes of getting the victim the assistance she needs to meet that goal.
