A Florida mom has been sentenced to only 10 years of imprisonment, after she was convicted of killing her own nine-month-old child. This slap on the wrist comes after over two years following the horrifying incident that ended the life of an innocent baby.
WPDE News reports that Florida woman Heather Clifford has been convicted of killing her nine-month-old child, and she is sentenced with 10 years of imprisonment. The conviction stems from a 2020 incident in which the woman was charged with aggravated manslaughter after her child was found floating in a bathtub in her home. WPTV News shared in a 2020 report that the Florida mom put her child in a bathtub with the water running, and then fell asleep — leaving the child to drown in the tub. When police arrived on the scene, the child was found facedown in the water.
Heather Clifford had been the focus of social service investigations in the past leading up to the death of her baby. Police had been called to the residence multiple times in the past as well. Other children in the home were removed from the Florida mom’s care when she was arrested for the death of her youngest.
Ten years for the death of a nine-month-old infant seems a little light — and manslaughter also doesn’t seem like a strong enough conviction. Nonetheless, this is what the court in Florida thought would be a fair punishment. Here’s to hoping this woman stays the entire 10 years of her sentence behind bars.
