The search for Athena Brownfield might have come to a bitter end after authorities have confirmed the discovery of a child’s remains in rural Oklahoma. The four-year-old girl was reported missing around January 10th, which led police on a manhunt that spanned across multiple states, and the arrest of the two adults trusted to care for her. While this discovery is heartbreaking, it was expected after police declared that the search for the missing child had turned into a recovery operation.

The remains of a child were located in a rural part of Grady County, Oklahoma near the town of Rush Springs on Tuesday. KOCO News reports that the little girl had been missing for approximately a week by the time of the gruesome discovery, but they suspected that the child was no longer alive based on the length of her disappearance along with the lack of cooperation of Alysia Adams and her husband. Athena Brownfield was likely murdered by Ivon Adams, who allegedly beat her to death on Christmas Day. This means the length of her disappearance actually surpasses that of the time she was actually reported missing to authorities.

This is such a disgusting, disturbing case. Hopefully with the discovery of this child’s body, authorities will be able to throw the book at Ivon Adams and his wife.
