A Las Vegas woman is behind bars after police say she tried to kill her baby. Ashley Hollingsworth was arrested on Wednesday for trying to murder her newborn infant, and the reason she gave authorities is alarming to say the least. What’s also alarming is the mugshot of the Las Vegas woman.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Ashley Hollingsworth tried to smother her child with a blanket in an attempt to end its life. Authorities became aware of this frightening situation when they were called to the emergency room at Mountain View Hospital. According to reports, the hospital staff called police because Hollingsworth arrived with her nearly-dead baby and refused to enter the hospital. She was also reportedly “bleeding profusely” at the time. When police arrived at the scene, Ashley wasn’t there. It took them two hours to track her down and get to the bottom of what happened.

WDTN News reports that the Las Vegas woman gave birth to the infant at home in her toilet before bringing it to the hospital. It was sometime along that ride that Hollingsworth decided to suffocate the baby with a blanket. When authorities interrogated her, Ashley Hollingsworth claimed that her newborn was “evil” and that it had made weird growling noises and looked at her strangely, prompting her to attempt to end its life.

The Las Vegas woman also told police that when she was pregnant she felt like something evil was growing inside of her. She also said “something was trying to kill” the baby. Come to find out that something was Ashley Hollingsworth.

The Las Vegas woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder and child abuse. Police say the injuries (shown in her mugshot) were self-inflicted.
