Missing in Las Vegas: Where Are These Missing People?

There are currently 155 missing people in Las Vegas, Nevada — according to NAMUS — but that number could actually be higher. Carroll Eugene Streich Thirty-seven-year-old Carroll Eugene Streich vanished from Nellis Airforce Base on June 1, 1969 — though, according to NAMUS, his last known contact was in 1972. Loved ones of the missing man believe that he might have intentionally gone AWOL, as this was during the war in Vietnam. The missing Wisconsin man was based at the Las Vegas Airforce base, but there are confusing contradictions in the details of his story which make it hard to determine if he ever returned from war or not. What happened to this missing man? If he’d gone AWOL voluntarily, wouldn’t he have at least reached out to loved ones over the course of the past several decades? Marie B. Morgan Marie Morgan...

Tipping Culture is a Symptom of a Far Bigger Problem

News reports and social media have been ablaze with stories of dollar-hungry Karens in the service industry who demand higher tips from customers — whether they’re delivering pizzas or serving meals and drinks in nicer establishments. Some of these unhinged people have been caught on video, and have gone viral for throwing fits about either not getting tips or not getting big enough tips for the jobs they’re doing. These folks overwhelmingly take their financial frustrations out on the customers, in what is becoming known online as “tipping culture.” Whether you’ve been on one end of this phenomenon or the other, the entire issue with tipping culture itself is that it is a symptom of a far bigger problem . And it’s a problem that people in the service industry are seemingly refusing to address. Recently, a DoorDash driver went viral after she literally took back the food she was delivering because the customer only gave her an $8.00 tip. The Ne...

Amy Fisher: A True Crime Celebrity of the 1990s

Amy Fisher, also known as the “Long Island Lolita,” became infamous in the early 1990s for her involvement in a highly publicized crime. Fisher was a 17-year-old high school student when she began a sexual relationship with Joey Buttafuoco, a married man who was twice her age. In May 1992, Fisher went to Buttafuoco’s home and shot his wife, Mary Jo, in the head. Mary Jo survived the attack but was left partially paralyzed. The incident became a media sensation, with Fisher’s young age and attractive appearance garnering significant attention. The media dubbed her the “Long Island Lolita” and her story became a symbol of teenage recklessness and violence. Fisher was ultimately convicted of first-degree assault and sentenced to 5-15 years in prison. Fisher’s crime was shocking in its brutality and senselessness. Her relationship with Buttafuoco, which began when she was just 16 years old, was deeply inappropriate and predatory. The fact that she w...

The Flaws of Our Criminal Justice System: A True Crime Writer's Perspective

As someone who has been writing about true crime and criminal justice for years, I’ve seen the many flaws of our justice system up close. From wrongful convictions to excessive sentencing, there are many ways in which our system fails those it’s supposed to protect. One of the biggest issues with our criminal justice system is its reliance on punishment rather than rehabilitation. Too often, individuals who have committed crimes are thrown into prison without any real attempt to address the underlying issues that led to their behavior in the first place. This approach not only fails to address the root causes of criminal behavior, but it also perpetuates a cycle of recidivism. Another issue with our criminal justice system is the racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist within it. Studies have shown that individuals from marginalized communities are more likely to be arrested, charged, and sentenced to harsher penalties than their white, middle-class counterparts. It...

Las Vegas Family Says Neighbor Killed Their Cat with a Hammer

A Las Vegas family, along with multiple neighbors on Airdrie Place near Nellis & Tropicana, say that a neighbor on their street brutally murdered their beloved pet cat with a hammer — and there are witnesses. The cat, which belonged to an older couple in the neighborhood, was pictured by a witness with horrifying injuries, which left a bloody mess on the otherwise quiet street on the Eastside of town. Now neighbors, along with the traumatized witnesses, are demanding justice — but the Las Vegas police are apparently refusing to do anything about this shocking case of animal cruelty. In a post made to the Nextdoor app on Monday, a horrified resident on the street called Airdrie Place shared shocking images of the cat moments after it died in what she described as an outright attack by a woman that lives in the house next door to her. She and her mother witnessed the cat frantically running from the woman’s home with the neighbor following behind it. When the woman s...

Where is Collin Best? Las Vegas Man Vanished in January

A Las Vegas mother is frantically searching for her adult son after he was reportedly last seen after getting arrested in January. Collin Best is 27-years-old and reportedly suffers from diminished mental capacity as well as bipolar disorder and a thyroid condition. The missing Las Vegas man’s mother is desperately seeking any information that might lead to his whereabouts. Meanwhile, she’s accusing the Las Vegas Police Department of being too slow to act on his disappearance. Collin Best was reportedly last seen around January 28th when he was arrested for disorderly conduct. He was released by the authorities shortly after his arrest, and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. His mother says that the police mishandled his arrest due to the fact that the 27-year-old Las Vegas man is mentally disabled who cannot be on his own. Best’s mother is his court-appointed legal guardian, even though he is considered an adult in age, due to the severity of his mental cond...

Las Vegas Dad Gets Life Imprisonment for Murdering His Own Son

A Las Vegas dad has been sentenced to life in prison, after he killed his own son and left his body in the desert. Thirty-nine-year-old Paul Jones pleaded guilty to the 2017 slaying of 13-year-old Aaron Jones late last year, so it’s been quite a wait to learn of the man’s prison sentence. Meanwhile, the child’s loved ones are enraged at the very system that they say allowed this tragedy to happen in the first place. Las Vegas Review Journal reports that Jones was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole after a little over 24 years. It seems like an almost lenient sentence, to be completely honest, given the absolutely horrifying story of child abuse that resulted from the investigation into this case. Paul Jones not only killed his own child, but he reportedly subjected him and other children to despicable living conditions, which also led to the arrest of his wife. Jones and his wife (Latoya Williams-Miley) lived in a single bedroom Siegel Suites ren...

Lake Mead Barrel Body Was Murder Victim From Decades in the Past

Due to the receding water level at Lake Mead, the shoreline continues to expand — and with this expansion comes the unearthing of things that once sat at the bottom of the lake. Some of those things were intended to be forgotten permanently — such as a barrel containing skeletal remains that were discovered on Sunday. The identity of the remains hasn’t been figured out yet, but detectives in Clark County, Nevada say that the barrel contained a homicide victim from decades ago. According to Law & Crime , the skeletal remains inside the barrel are that of a man who was shot dead sometime in the 1970s or the 1980s. The identity of the man isn’t known yet, but authorities believe the shoes — Kmart brand — may help in finding out who he was. Other items were collected from the rotting, rusted barrel but the nature of the items aren’t being publicized by police. These items, presumably, may be evidence linked to the man’s identity. Disturbi...

Fox 5 Vegas News shares that 14-year-old Jackson Williams is a bit of a politics enthusiast so when he realized he could run for Vermont Governor at only 14-years-old, he decided to do it.
