Update: This missing woman has been located safely. Police have confirmed that the family of Natasha Marie Abela have been in contact.

Hawaiian authorities are looking for a missing woman after her family say she didn’t return home to California when she was scheduled to do so. Police in Maui are looking for 31-year-old Natasha Marie Abela, but the timeframe of her disappearance — along with the scarcity of details — is troubling. Is this woman missing under criminal circumstances or did she simply choose to stay in Hawaii on her own free will?

Loved ones of the missing woman say that she was last seen by friends in December 2021 at the airport, but she never got on a plane or arrived at her family’s home in California. It wasn’t until February 9th of this year that her family reported her missing, meaning she hadn’t been seen by family or friends for several weeks by the time police assistance was requested. This is an unfortunate window of time, because if this missing woman was kidnapped or harmed in any way, time is working against her.

Fortunately, her loved ones don’t appear to believe she’s missing under criminal circumstances. They’ve reportedly received tips indicating she was sighted near the Lahaina area in mid February. This news report also states that Natasha Marie Abela may be associated with the homeless community.

Maui Police Department is asking for tips in the search for this missing woman. If you know her, or if you’ve seen her, please contact the MPD at 808-244-6400. Meanwhile, if Natasha Marie Abela is missing voluntarily, she is encouraged to contact her loved ones and the MPD to confirm that she is safe.
