Is Bryan Kohberger innocent? According to him, he is. The 28-year-old man accused of viciously slaying four Idaho college students has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of first degree murder. Authorities who facilitated his arrest seem confidant that they have their guy, but his public defender also disagrees. It’s not surprising to see an accused murderer deny his role in the crimes he’s accused of committing, but what are the odds that he’ll be exonerated in the end?

According to Insider, the attorney defending Kohberger says his client is “shocked” about the allegations against him. Bryan Kohberger, who is currently sitting in a jail in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition back to Idaho, apparently claims his innocence in this case. In fact, according to his attorney, the accused murder of “The Idaho Four,” says that he will be exonerated of these charges. The statement given by public defender Jason LaBar states the following:

“Kohberger is eager to be exonerated of these charges and looks forward to resolving these matters as promptly as possible.”

In other words it sounds like he wants to quickly get through this situation so that he can somehow clear his name and record of any involvement with the murders of the four young people.

On November 13, 2022 the bodies of four college students were found stabbed to death in a home they were all sharing at the time. 20-year-0ld Ethan Chapin, 21-year-old Madison Mogen, 20-year-old Xana Kernodle and 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves were all reportedly stabbed to death while they slept. From the beginning of the gruesome discovery this case has been a wild ride. How could someone manage to murder four able-bodied people in their sleep? Furthermore, how could such murders take place without anyone else in the home hearing it? Over the course of more than a month the murders of these four college students has been a mystery. The idea that a killer was freely prowling Moscow, Idaho was a disturbing one to not only locals, but people in surrounding areas as well. It wasn’t until this past weekend that authorities arrested a suspect in this horrifying case of multiple murder. Bryan Kohberger was arrested at his parents’ home over 1,000 miles away in Pennsylvania.

What evidence do police have against Kohberger in the slayings of the Idaho Four? According to this article by the New York Post, police had been surveilling Kohberger and his father — who traveled with him from Washington State to Pennsylvania — since around Christmas. The article also reveals that genetic genealogy played a role in nailing their suspect, through the use of DNA taken from the scene of the murders.

If DNA evidence has in fact tied Bryan Kohberger to the crime, he’s going to have a difficult time proving to a jury that he is innocent, unless multiple unidentified samples were taken from the crime scene. That is also a possibility given his statements to police at the time of his arrest. When Kohberger was arrested at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania, he reportedly asked arresting officers “who else was arrested?”. This implies that someone else might have played a roll in the murders of the students, or it could be his attempt at sewing doubt in the case against him.

Do you think it’s possible that Bryan Kohberger could be exonerated?
