Police say 32-year-old Maya Dennis killed her five and a half month old daughter on December 29th. The Harford County, Maryland woman was arrested on charges associated with the horrific abuse of the infant at the hospital, but the child died two days later, prompting an additional charge of first degree murder.
CBS News reports that Maya Dennis admitted to police that she'd inflicted the injuries on her infant daughter that resulted in her death. A press release issued by Harford County Sheriff's Office reveals that the 32-year-old Maryland mom was directly responsible for the child's care at the time of the incident. According to the release, the five and a half month old infant was transported by ambulance to the John Hopkins Pediatric Trauma Center, where it was revealed that she was suffering from multiple injuries including skull fractures, a broken leg and brain bleed. Initially, Dennis was charged with child abuse, but was given a first degree murder charge when her baby succumbed to her numerous life-threatening injuries on New Year's Eve.
