A Las Vegas man has been arrested in association with several violent rapes of local prostitutes, and authorities are seeking help in locating other possible victims. Police say 29-year-old Denver Baoec-Ascuncion was arrested earlier this month after multiple women came forward recounting recent incidents of kidnapping and sexual assault.
8 News Now reports that the 28-year-old Las Vegas man faces multiple counts, and there may be other victims. Two separate prostitutes between December 20th and January 7th reportedly told police that Ascuncion picked them up and forced them into sexual acts. Both alleged victims claimed that the Las Vegas man used a firearm to threaten them.
Non-virtual sex work (i.e., physical prostitution) is a dangerous line of work, especially in large cities like Las Vegas -- where rates of non-virtual sex work have increased by 50% in recent years. Prostitutes -- especially street walkers -- are often victims of violent crime and robberies. It's fortunate that the two women who have come forward about their rapes are getting the police assistance to which they're entitled as public citizens. However, many victims in the sex work industry go without justice -- and some go completely ignored. Hopefully, if this man has any more victims in the city, they come forward and help put him behind bars where he belongs.
