A Florida man has been arrested after police in Lakeland say he shot his husband to death last week. An arrest affidavit states that 27-year-old Gavin Miranda turned himself in to authorities on Thursday night after the incident, which is gaining viral attention.
WESH News reports that the 27-year-old Florida Man shot 30-year-old Hugo Gomez 10 times during what Miranda claims as “marital issues.” He reportedly called 911 at around 9:21 p.m., following the fatal incident, telling the operator that his husband had pushed him into a wall and choked him, which led to him breaking free and running for a gun that was in the home. The Florida man told the 911 operator that he retrieved the gun and then fired it at his husband until he emptied the magazine.
Authorities in Lakeland noted that while the 30-year-old victim had one shot that entered the front of his body, the backside of his body contained nine other gunshot entry wounds. This indicates that the Florida man was shot nine times in the back as he presumably attempted to flee from his husband.
Gavin Miranda has been charged with first degree murder in association with last week’s incident, and authorities are not buying the weak self-defense story. They believe that the Florida man’s husband was “defenseless” at the time of his death.
