Is the search for Justin Kyle Lovett over? The Hamilton, Alabama man vanished over eight months ago under strange circumstances, but less than 24-hours following an article which criticized police handling of the case, they went out and found a body. Now members of the community in Hamilton and Hackleburg are demanding answers — especially from the missing man’s ex-girlfriend and circle of friends.
Human remains were located last week near Mitchell Hill in Hamilton, Alabama. Police have not confirmed the identity of the remains, but multiple people who are close to the missing man have claimed that his backpack and identification were found alongside the skeletal remains that were located. Meanwhile, the loved ones of Justin Kyle Lovett are awaiting DNA confirmation.
While everyone waits for Hamilton Police to confirm the identity of the remains they located, numerous people are also demanding answers from Justin’s ex girlfriend — a Hamilton woman named Candy (or Kandi) Lynn Shirey. Shirey was among the last people to see Justin before he vanished over eight months ago, and their relationship was publicly tumultuous. Numerous people have publicly and privately accused Candy Shirey of either having direct involvement in Justin’s disappearance, or withholding information about it that could prove critical to figuring out exactly what happened to him. In a very public blowout on Shirey’s own Facebook page, several of her own friends called her out for looking suspicious. Some accused her of failing to do basic, normal things one does when a significant other goes missing, and some accused her of having direct involvement in either harming him or causing him to harm himself. At least one individual confronted Shirely about specific interactions in which she piqued their suspicion about Justin’s disappearance.
The Justice Voice did speak with Shirey in a lengthy discussion the night before police found the unidentified human remains, which were located just around 1,000 feet from her residence. The details of this discussion, with screenshots, will be published in an upcoming special feature about this case. In the meantime, the public eagerly awaits a positive identification of the remains that were located last week, though the people closest to Justin are certain the remains belong to him.
