Is the search for Gretchen Fleming over? If so, it’s on an incredibly negative note as authorities confirm they’ve found human remains in the search for the missing West Virginia woman. This update comes just a day following a second search of the home of Preston Pierce — the only person of interest in Gretchen’s disappearance.
The Globe Echo reports that human remains have been located approximately two hours from where Gretchen Fleming was last seen — in the area of Elm Grove, West Virginia. Reports haven’t confirmed one way or the other, but this location might have something to do with the dark SUV detectives have been seeking since the beginning of the search for Gretchen. Still, authorities haven’t confirmed whether or not they’ve ever found the mystery vehicle.
According to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, investigators were led to the location of the remains through a call made by the police department in Elm Grove. He said they were called specifically about the human remains in relation to the disappearance of Gretchen Fleming. This indicates that something identifiable must have stood out about the body that was found which led Elm Grove officials to believe they’d be identified as the missing Parkersburg woman.
If this body is identified as the missing woman, then this would imply she suffered some kind of foul play. An autopsy is currently scheduled, however, so we until it’s complete we won’t know the actual identity of the body that was found on Thursday.
