Jennifer Powers vanished 15 years ago from the town of Harvest, Alabama under some of the most suspicious circumstances that can come with a missing person’s case. In fact, this case is so suspicious that it’s absolutely mind-blowing that the missing woman’s husband has never been publicly declared a suspect. What’s more, police in Alabama do believe the missing Harvest woman was murdered, even though her body has never been found. All of these years later, it’s clear that someone is getting away with murder. So why hasn’t anyone questioned the most obvious person of interest?
The loved ones of Jennifer Powers have long-asserted that her husband Jason Powers dropped their children off at their grandparents the last night she was seen alive. The story Jason gave the family was that he was taking Jennifer out to dinner that night. While it is not entirely known if the couple actually did go out to eat (it’d be good to know), what is known is that Jason claims he last saw his wife in their home that night. It was July 12, 2008.
The following morning, the children were dropped back off by their grandparents. When they arrived home, they discovered that their mother was not home — but all of her belongings were left behind. Jason said that he last saw her before bedtime, and that he had no idea what happened to her or where she went. Here’s the kicker, though: Jason Powers didn’t report his wife missing for two entire weeks.
Over the course of the numerous years that have passed, police claim to have obtained evidence several times from the areas surrounding the property where Jennifer Powers was last seen: The home she shared with her husband and children. There are even reports that the neighbors backyard showed traces of what might have been a former burial, which was proven to be connected to the death of the missing woman. Still, no arrests have been made.
Did the husband do it?
Look, nobody wants to think that a loving husband would murder his wife and then allow her case to go unsolved for decades. But the fact of the matter is that the overwhelming statistics support the theory. In the vast majority of women who go missing under circumstances related to foul play, a significant other or spouse is to blame. The vast majority of women who are murdered are murdered by their own romantic partners. And when a man waits two entire weeks to report his wife missing, this should be a point of extreme suspicion for anybody.
Has Jason Powers ever been questioned in his wife’s disappearance? Has he ever been given a polygraph test? Has he ever been considered a person of interest over the course of the several years that have passed? The police in Harvest cannot be this oblivious to the glaringly suspicious circumstances in this case, can they?
