A Florida woman is behind bars on charges of premeditated murder after she reportedly killed her own mother, as well as her fiance. The double murder itself isn’t what’s getting attention, however — but the woman’s reasoning and apparent motive are garnering national attention.
People Magazine reports that 27-year-old Alexandra Cupolo confessed to killing both her mother and her fiance last Tuesday. The double-homicide was discovered by police who were conducting a welfare check after the woman’s fiance failed to show up at work. Her fiance, an emergency room doctor named Andrew Sturm, hadn’t been seen by neighbors since the previous evening. However, a neighbor told authorities that they’d heard gunshots at around 3:00 in the morning on Tuesday. Those gunshots, come to find out, were the shots that claimed the lives of both Sturm and Alexandra’s mother Jacqueline Cupolo. Police entered the home of the Florida woman and discovered the bodies of her mother and her fiance, who had been shot to death. Alexandra Cupolo was reportedly in and out of consciousness, but was cognizant enough to tell police that “the occult made her do it.”
Further inspection of Cupolo’s home revealed a sort of confession letter, in which she declared that the incident was “self defense,” and that she was compelled to kill her mother and fiance because of the occult.
“The occult were messing with me. Don’t believe anything bad. I am telling the truth,” the Florida woman’s note read.
Alexandra Cupolo quickly revealed to authorities that this was far from a case of mental insanity, however. Shortly after she was read her Miranda Rights, the Florida woman must have realized that police weren’t buying into the old heehaw “the devil made me do it” trope. The facade quickly crumbled and she admitted to police that she killed her mother because she was “a (expletive),” and that her fiance’ only died because he was standing next to her when it happened. Cupolo wasn’t bothered by the death of her fiance’, telling police that “it’s alright,” because “he’s at peace.”
Did the occult make her practice?
Upon confessing to the double murder, Alexandra Cupolo also told police that she’d practiced firing the gun she used to murder her mother and fiance’. The Florida woman told authorities that she had never fired a gun before, so she fired it in her bedroom once before killing her two loved ones. These details clearly paint a picture of premeditated murder, which is the charge she’s been given. Alexandra is currently charged with two counts of premeditated murder. If convicted, she could spend the rest of her life in prison.
