A 21-year-old Las Vegas man is currently behind bars on accusations that he intentionally scalded his girlfriend’s toddler with hot bathwater. The incident, which took place last year, is making headlines this week, because the man believed responsible for the child’s injuries was only recently arrested for the incident.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that 21-year-old Jonathan Caleb Lee was arrested on Thursday in association with last year’s incident, which was initially reported as an accident. When the child was injured last year, Lee claimed that he had “spanked” the two-year-old for soiling their self. After admitting to spanking the toddler, the Las Vegas man claimed that the child fell into the scalding hot water of the bath he was running in order to clean up after the bathroom accident. A witness of the incident said that the child was badly scalded and it looked like skin was coming off of them. This incident wasn’t reported until later in the day when the child’s mother arrived home from work to discover the extent of the injuries the tot sustained. The mother, who was not present during the alleged abuse, rushed her child to the hospital where it was discovered that the two-year-old was suffering from second-degree and third degree burns all over their body.
After an investigation it was found that there was “just no way” that the toddler accidentally fell into the scalding hot bath. According to one investigator in the released documents on this case, the child’s feet were not burned and that went against the Las Vegas man’s story of them falling into the tub. The findings led investigators to believe that the toddler’s injuries were the result of child abuse — and not an accident.
The Review-Journal reveals that Jonathan Caleb Lee was already a convicted felon at the time of the incident, having spent a couple of years in prison for attempted murder. He is currently being held without bail on this latest arrest.
